By Ven. Phra Acharn Dhammadharo Bhikkhu

It was established by Ven.Phra Acharn Dhammadharo Bhikkhu, situated in a peaceful and comfortable place, in the area of 80 rai ( 32 acres ).
Every year, people from many parts of Thailand come to attend the insight meditation trainning course, assisted by senior monks. Most people are monks, novices, nuns, laypeople; groups of teachers and students, people from different departments.

Thabarwa Center is open full-time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week without recess. It is the sanctuary for persons from all regions of Myanmar who seek refuge for care and attention and desire to practice meditation.

The center provides sanctuary for more than 2,400 yogis (as of February 2014) including aged persons, sick, infirm, blind, deaf, disabled, mental cases, homeless and helpless. Sanctuary is provided without discrimination or restriction as to number, time, age, health condition, nationality, social status, religion, etc.

Food, lodging and teaching are provided free of charge.

It is the place where volunteers can donate their skills, time, energy, labor, money and materials to gain merit and practice meditation for a worthy cause, and to look after the welfare of the residents taking refuge at Thabarwa Center. Thabarwa channels the money and materials received in donations to provide a peaceful venue for people to practice Dhamma without worry.

Mingaladon Township

The meditation practiced at the centre is Vipassana Meditation or Mindfulness Meditation based on Sattipatthana Sutta and the Mahasi Sayadaw method. Meditators meditate from 4.00h a.m. until 9.00h p.m. Sitting and walking meditation are alternated. The rest of the time will be filled with an attentive and slow performance of daily routines such as getting up, washing, getting dressed, eating, taking a shower and so on. It is very important to create a continuous and uninterrupted attentiveness at all times and during every possible activity.

The instructions, interviews, and Dhamma talks of Sayadaw U Indaka are translated into English. When Ven. Virañani is present, she can provide instruction in English, and also understands French. When Ariya Baumann is at the centre, she gives talks in English and can also offer one-on-one instructions in Swiss German, German, and French.

Los Angeles

Founded by George Haas in 2003 and named the Best Online Buddhist Meditation by Los Angeles Magazine in 2011, Mettagroup uses Vipassanā, or insight meditation, as a way to help students live a meaningful life. Drawing from 2500-year-old Buddhist teachings and John Bowlby's Attachment Theory, the Mettagroup techniques serve as a model of how to connect with other people, and how to be completely yourself in relationships with others and with work.

Commonly referred to as "mindfulness," Vipassanā meditation is focused on living more peacefully, compassionately and wisely. Derived from the Theravada school of Buddhism, the techniques are widely acknowledged as effective ways to manage pain, stress, compulsiveness and are often used in conjunction with psychotherapy.

Most Mettagroup students begin with Morning Meditation, a guided meditation held via conference call six days a week with founding teacher George Haas. In addition, we offer several intensive courses throughout the year, as well as multiple retreats every year and ongoing one-on-one mentoring with experienced teachers. Read more in our classes section, or sign up for our newsletter and we'll let you know about courses and special events.

Our temple serves anyone interested in studying and practicing Buddhism. Using the original doctrines and practices taught by the Buddha 2500 years ago, we follow and practice the oldest version of the Buddha's teaching in the Theravada tradition. The resident monks come from Sri Lanka where the Buddha's Complete Canon was first written down from an oral tradition.

Joshua Tree

Dhamma Dena, a Vipassana Buddhist center,  was founded almost forty years ago by pioneer Buddhist teacher Ruth Denison, one of only four westerners initiated as a teacher by the eminent Burmese meditation master Sayagi U Ba Khin.  The Center is named for Dhammadina, a female disciple of the Buddha, and is situated in the Mojave Desert of California, near Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Monument.

Dhamma Dena offers daily meditation in the dharma hall, as well as offering several retreats each year.  Ruth Denison created an enduring and unique method of practicing Vipassana, focused on mindfulness in every moment, with the attention always to this present moment, as experienced directly through the movement and sensations of the body.  This  unique style of Vipassana meditation has influenced most of the contemporary Theravada teachers in the West, who now incorporate some form of mindful movement into their retreats. This style of teaching remains the hallmark of our center, and is carried on by her appointed teachers, with the same beautiful benefits to all who join us to practice here...

Visitors are always welcome for daily meditation or formal retreats.  Dedicated dharma practitioners who are able to be self-sufficient and independent may contact the center to arrange for personal practice time here, after discussing your needs with the staff.  Feel free to contact the Center about the possibility of a visit.

The aim of the society is to conduct Vipassana discourses annually as well as to perform various religious activities under the guidance of our Venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw. The main aims are as follows.

1. To create a meditation center for the yogis to practice meditation any day whole year round.

2. To have residing Sayadaws who can teach Vipassana meditation in English, Burmese and Chinese.

3. To conduct teaching sessions on Buddhism, Burmese tradition and Culture, and Myanmar language to overseas Myanmar children.

Chanmyay Yeiktha ('Peaceful Hermitage') is a Buddhist meditation centre in Rangoon, Myanmar (Burma) where the teachers are senior Buddhist monks who teach Vipassana (Insight) meditation in Myanmar and English languages.
