DhammaVinaya is an attempt to organize and give structure to the earliest known teachings of the Buddha. Although interpretations and commentaries of past and present teachers are of great value, the exclusive focus of this site is the Suttapitaka (Basket of Discourses) and Vinayapitaka (Basket of the Discipline) of the Theravada Pali Tipitaka. Even within the Canon, parts generally considered to be of later origin are avoided. The original texts and the translations are laid out side-by-side, so that anyone interested can check and clarify the translations and learn some Pali in the process.
This site is dedicated to the teachings of Venerable Ayya Khema (1923-1997), a Theravada Buddhist nun ordained in Sri Lanka . Her teachings (which were prolific) describe simple and effective meditation methods for development of calm and insight, for expanding feelings of loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity towards others, and for overcoming obstacles to practice. She also gives detailed and lucid instructions for the meditative absorptions (jhanas) which provide access to higher states of consciousness, the way the Buddha himself practiced.

The Buddhist Scholars Information Network (H-Buddhism) serves as a medium for the exchange of information regarding academic resources, new research projects, scholarly publications, university job listings, and so forth, for specialists in Buddhist Studies who are currently affiliated with academic institutions. It is not a list intended for general discussions of issues regarding Buddhism as a religion, philosophy, practice, or lifestyle (there is a wide variety of lists on the Internet that already serve this purpose), nor a list where non-specialists may pose queries. People who are not specialists in Buddhist Studies can access messages from H-Buddhism through this web site, but they can neither subscribe nor post their own messages.
